The world's top action sports athletes will descend upon Huntington
Beach, California September 23-26 as the World Championships of
Skateboarding and the Vans Championships of BMX arrive at
Huntington State Beach with Vans Triple Crown titles on the line.
The event is free to the public. The competitions are the
culmination of the Vans Triple Crown Series with more than $250,000
and a Ford Ranger FX4 at stake for both the skate and BMX champs.
The World Championships of Skate will air on October 16th on NBC at
3:00 pm EDT, while the Vans Championships of BMX will air on NBC on
December 12th at 2:00 pm EST. Highlights this year include
appearances by X Games skate medalists Bucky Lasek and Paul
Rodriguez, Ryan Nyquist's attempt to clinch his fourth consecutive
Vans Triple Crown of BMX title and Cory Nastazio's continued return
to BMX competition after a serious car accident hospitalized him
last April. "We're looking forward to bringing the best of both
skate and BMX together as World Championships of Skateboarding and
Vans Championships of BMX coincide at Huntington for the first
time," said Chris Strain, Vans' Vice President, Marketing. "The
level of competition combined with the world-class field of riders
promises to make this Triple Crown finale one of the best yet."
Joining Lasek and Rodriguez at the World Championships of
Skateboarding are names such as Tony Trujillo, Ryan Sheckler, Bob
Burnquist, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Omar Hassan, Vanessa Torres, and
Cara-Beth Burnside. Besides Nyquist and Nastazio, Ryan Guettler,
Stephen Murray, Chris Doyle, Dennis McCoy, TJ Lavin and Tim "Fuzzy"
