We all already know that the online casino industry is just getting more and more popular as we speak. Thanks to a new piece of data, provided by the search engine Lycos, we may have received a partial answer.
As we’re getting closer to the end of the year 2007, Lycos recently announced its 8th annual list of top 50 search terms for the year 2007, which is based on The Lycos 50, a weekly list of the most popular users’ searches. Surprisingly, or maybe not, for the second year in a row the term “poker” leads the list. According to Lycos, people all over the Internet have searched this last year for poker related activities or information more than anything else. While “poker” is the exact term, the connection to the online casino industry is quite obvious. Apparently, not only poker’s popularity is getting bigger, but it’s surpassing any previous predictions.
The achievement should be taken even more seriously when looking at the other top ten terms in the lists, including huge pop stars Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, as well as the widely popular MySpace and Youtube. Without a doubt, poker’s popularity has been constantly rising during the last years, primarily thanks to online casino sites and the World Poker Tour.
