Every online gambling site runs on a virtual gaming platform. There are only a number of sites that offer internet gambling services through their own platform and the majority of casino websites are licensing the gaming platform from turnkey providers. As the first quarter of 2007 behind us, software companies have released their quarterly results. PlayTech, one of the world's leading casino software providers, seems to be doing pretty good this year with revenue rising to $19.8 million. However, not all turnkey providers can say the same.
Cryptologic, on the other hand, is not having a very good year. Cryptologic, much like PlayTech, specializes in online gaming platform for the casino industry. The firm shows a drop of 27 percent in revenue compared with the first quarter of last year. As if that alone isn't enough to make a board of directors cry for help, the company is forecasting the next quarter to show a similar decline in revenue. Both companies have exited the United States market late last year following the enactment of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act which had its own effect on each of firms.
PlayTech's revenue from foreign markets has risen by 22 percent following it's departure from the American market, with 58 percent of all revenue coming form poker platforms. Poker is the most popular gambling service on the net, and the demand for new poker platforms is always high. Not all companies that left the U.S. market enjoy such success. It will take some time until the industry will stabilize and we will see firms reporting solid results.
