Not many people know it but starting from September 1st, the UK Gambling Commission will be the body controlling all the gambling activities in the country. Even less people know that the commission will be missing its current Director of Operations, Phill Brear, as he’s moving into a new position in the Gibraltar Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). This latest move, which managed to surprise many people at the online casino industry, was announced last week by Paul Canessa, chief executive of the GRA.“We are delighted to have made this appointment. Our e-gambling industry is the hub of a global industry that aspires to the highest standards in socially responsible and transparent services” said Canessa.
Brear, who will start his new job on October 1st, started his work as Director of Operations in the UK Gambling Commission in October 2005, following a career in policing. Among other things, he was the responsible for licensing, compliance and enforcement functions of the commission. In addition, he was one the key players in the process of setting and developing new policies and conditions for the British online casino industry, which were made official under the Gambling Act.
“I feel very privileged to be taking up such an important post at such a critical time."Gibraltar has a first class reputation and I’ll do everything that I can in order to assure that it continues that way” said Brear only a few days after the announcement of his appointment. Even though there’s no doubt that this latest move is a considerable promotion for Brear, he too knows that his new job will be everything but easy.
