How much does a good and catchy domain name can possibly cost ? Apparently, a lot! Cryptologic, one of the largest and most influential online casino software providers has recently bought from Media Corp the popular gambling portal casino.co.uk, along with its online casino and poker room. While not all the details of the transaction were made public, it appears that Cryptologic had to pay GBP 3 million, with an additional payment of GBP 625,000 subject to achieving post closing performance targets
This latest acquisition comes as part of the company’s new expansion plans. Founded in 1995 by brothers Andrew and Mark Rivkin, Crytpologic is considered nowadays as one of the biggest online casino software suppliers. The company has developed in the last years more than 200 games, including the popular Bejeweled and a series of games featuring the Marvel Super Heroes, such as Spiderman, Hulk and the Daredevil. Launching their first licensee in 1996, the company has managed since then to close deals with some of the biggest online casinos and poker rooms. In addition, Cryptologic listed on the NASDAQ in 2000 and three years it began trading on the London Stock Exchange.
During the last months, Cryptologic has been busy relocating its headquarters to Dublin, Ireland, along with planning its expansion plans. Without a doubt, this latest deal has a pretty big part in those plans. At the other end of the deal, Media Corp has made it clear that the decision to sell casino.co.uk was based on their need to focus on its online advertising businesses and diversify into new markets.
